A happy New Year to All. With the winter months hopefully half over it seems like a good time to discuss the merits of evergreen Epimediums. Whilst many varieties are botanically described as evergreen, some are more resolutely so than others. Whether foliage is retained in good condition may depend upon siting. Avoiding frost pockets and windswept locations will help, as will planting in the microclimate of buildings. However if one of your main aims in planting Epimediums is to provide evergreen cover and winter interest throughout your garden then I can recommend the following varieties, as observed from growing in the South East UK:-
